There are different types of dressers for you to choose from. The smallest of these dressers are called drawer dressers as you only get to see drawers in these dressers. The largest type of dressers is called door dressers because of the door found in the center of the dresser. This door is used for covering pull out trays and shelves.
Modern dressers still feature mirrors but they are usually placed as "vanity stations" with a slot for a low stool or chair. The cabinets and drawers flank the space for the chair. The spacious work tops of modern dressers are designed for keeping cosmetics and other trinkets on them without appearing messy or cluttered.
The Swedish firm Ikea has specialised in supplying such dressers for the bedroom in low cost flat pack format for self assembly at home. In days of old you would have to struggle up the stairs with the weighty pre crafted dresser.
The dresser for the bedroom as an essential piece of furniture has been much in demand for centuries. Traditionally a gentlemans dresser for his bedroom was made of oak or mahogany usually with two top drawers for stockings gloves cravats handkerchiefs and other accouterments. On the top would be placed lace covers and a mirror that should ideally match the wood of the dresser. The remaining three drawers would be single and capacious enough to carry shirts woollens and breeches.
The color you choose for your dresser is just as important as the style you select. The wrong color dresser can totally throw off the look of your bedroom. For example a bright red dresser would be the wrong choice for a bedroom with a classic traditional theme and a neutral colored dresser would look all wrong in a modern contemporary bedroom. Most dressers are available in wood stains like oak cherry and mahogany. If you find yourself a little unsure about color a wood stain is probably the safest route to choose as they are the easiest to blend in with just about any style of room. No matter what color you choose make sure its not overpowering the rest of the room.
There are many makes and designs of dressers that are now on sale in the market. Some are already made and ready for pick-up while some offer personalization services. If you have specific preferences for your dresser you can now talk to the craftsman and tell him how you want your dresser made. But what designs of dressers are there available that would suit your budget preferences on design and of course functionality?
