With oak being a durable and heavy wood with beautiful grain oak dressers are basically stronger and more durable than dressers made from other woods such as mahogany. It is better to get yourself an oak dresser if you have a large and active family which will be opening and closing the dresser frequently as these dressers dont damage easily with so much wear and tear.
Dressers can come in different shapes and forms and this ultimately determines what to use it for and how to place it inside the bedroom. Sometimes dressers are chosen and made to suit a theme chosen for the room and sometimes it is purposely designed to stand out in the room because of its aesthetic qualities. The oldest and most traditional forms of dressers are usually smaller and are used to keep smaller articles and clothing in order. Most of these dressers are used to keep underwear socks and other trinkets and items like jewelry. Today many newer designs are larger and have more storage space than usual. These dressers have more drawers and more storage space. Furthermore many craftsmen are now making dressers with more intricate designs and aesthetic quality and so dressers are valued not just because of their functionality but because of their design value as well. The purposes of your traditional dresser have now been expanded.
Another thing that is important to take into consideration when choosing the right dresser for your bedroom is color. What color would you like your dresser to be? While many dressers are made of wood and therefore come in different wood stains like cherry oak or mahogany there are also dressers made of different materials that are available in every color of the rainbow. The important thing to remember with color selection is that you want your dresser to blend in with everything else in your bedroom. You want the dresser to look as though it is a part of a bedroom collection even if it is not. Choose a neutral color thats not distracting from your overall décor.
Dressers with mirrors are usually placed in the bedroom as "vanity stations". Most dressers with mirrors are low about 2-3 feet tall with a slot for a low stool or chair. The cabinets and drawers flank the space for the chair. These dressers have big tops that function as tables to place cosmetics and other trinkets. The cabinets and drawers usually are not deep and spacious as smaller articles are usually placed in them. Newer designs of dressers with mirrors take out the space for the chair and replace them with cabinets. Furthermore newer designs are taller and have more spacious cabinets. Newer designs seem to combine the functionalities of a vanity station and a storage space for clothes and bigger articles. These dressers are bigger and so these are suited for bigger rooms with more space. But there are smaller and more compact dressers with mirrors available in the market today. Although smaller they still provide the same function.
The Double Dresser. This is one of the most commonly used bedroom furniture dressers today. Double dressers are short and wide with many drawers - the number of drawers will usually range from six to nine arranged in rows of twos or threes. Some double dressers come with a dressing mirror attached on top or hanging right above. If you are looking for high capacity storage then a double dresser will likely do the trick.
