From this practical and utilitarian beginning in a European peasant hut the duvet cover has developed to include being the center of a modern bedroom decor. It still protects but it has also become a fashion item that is easily changed and stored. The original comforters and covers were plain and drab but eventually the covers decorative possibilities were realized.
Duvet Cover. A soft and comfortable duvet can be expensive and hence a duvet cover is necessary for protection like a pillow case to a pillow. It can be slipped over a duvet and closed completely. Duvet covers are easy to wash and clean; the added advantage is that they can alter the decor of a bedroom or guest room easily or afford change of style or color to bedding units depending upon the season.
Choosing the Duvet-cover according to need. There are many types of duvet-covers in the market for different purposes and for every occasion. The cost varies with the fabric used as well as the designs. For example in winters a duvet cover made of silk flannel or velvet would keep you warm whereas cotton or a lighter material duvet cover would be ideal for summers.
A duvet cover essentially is a pillow case for your comforter. They come in a variety of shapes and colors to fit any comforter that you own. Instead of having your comforter get dirty your cover will get the brunt of the spill which is going to be giving you peace of mind. Remember with the varieties that are available you will be able to find the perfect duvet cover for any room and for any personality.
The duvet story begins a few centuries ago with down comforters in Europe and silk comforters in Asia. Both comforters required a significant amount of time to make which gave them value. Also both types are excellent insulators but neither one was happy being washed in the local stream nor are they happy in a modern washer.
Also with the passage of time comforters began to be made of materials that are more easily cleaned leading to comforters that are decorative in themselves not necessarily requiring a duvet cover.
