The duvet story begins a few centuries ago with down comforters in Europe and silk comforters in Asia. Both comforters required a significant amount of time to make which gave them value. Also both types are excellent insulators but neither one was happy being washed in the local stream nor are they happy in a modern washer.
A duvet known in many countries as a quilt is a thin yielding blanket with a soft filling inside. Its been there from bygone days serving the purpose of either a bed softener or a blanket in many parts of the world. Often there is confusion over the word duvet because in the United States Duvet is referred to as the quilt cover as opposed to the quilt itself. Duvet-covers are used just like a pillow cover to protect the duvet and keep it clean.
Duvets became popular around the world in the 20th century as a convenient form of bed covering. In some parts of the world they are also known as quilts and are used as extra bedding or mattresses in households in addition to regular mattresses for kids and extra guests.
When you are looking at that comforter and seeing that terrible stain in the middle of it we both know you are going is it that noticeable? Well worry no more if you have a duvet cover on the comforter you will no longer have to clean that comforter only the cover. For washing these are the best things in the world. Throw into the washer on either warm or cold use a nice mild detergent and let it do its thing. When it is done the duvet cover can right in the dryer on low heat of course and you are done. It is that simple you cannot say that much for your comforter and you will be ecstatic at the results. No more time wasted when you take a full day to wash and dry your comforter instead you are good to go in a couple of hours.
Duvet covers are made for use without a top sheet. Therefore they save the cost of top sheets and bed making becomes faster and easier.
Although duvet inserts and covers have been around for a long time their popularity in the US has lagged behind their popularity in other countries until relatively recently. Their popularity in America is now growing as people realize their many advantages over other types of bedding. If you have not yet experienced these advantages for yourself you are encouraged to try one soon.
