A duvet known in many countries as a quilt is a thin yielding blanket with a soft filling inside. Its been there from bygone days serving the purpose of either a bed softener or a blanket in many parts of the world. Often there is confusion over the word duvet because in the United States Duvet is referred to as the quilt cover as opposed to the quilt itself. Duvet-covers are used just like a pillow cover to protect the duvet and keep it clean.
Duvet inserts and covers present less of a storage problem than other types of bed covers. In general two inserts are adequate for any bed. One for the colder months and one for the warmer months with an empty duvet cover (no insert) being used during the hottest months. So for most of the year when one duvet insert is in use you have one bulky (but not as bulky as many other coverings) duvet inserts to store. Add to this all but one of your duvet covers - three in the closet along with one on the bed would give you four to alternate between. Each of the covers takes up as much space as two folded flat sheets. This compares favorably with the storage space required for a total of four changes with other types of bed covers such as three bedspreads quilts or decorative comforters.
It comes in a variety of materials and we are going to look at some of the better options for your home. Cotton or cotton blends will be a durable way to keep your comforter safe. It is going to be a cool breathable material that will suit any room or person plus is great for those warm summer nights. Polyester is going to a bit of a cheaper material to go with if prices are going to be an issue. It has the added bonus of being anti-allergy material but it does not breath too well. For those cold winter nights flannel is the way to go with your duvet cover. This material will keep you toasty warm but for those summer nights you will need to switch it up as you will be dying of heat exhaustion.
